Getting kids active before, during and after school brings big benefits—more energy, improved focus and better test scores. That’s one of the reasons why we partnered with Active Schools programs around the world to help transform the role of sport and play in children’s education. The goal is to prioritize play and add up to 60 minutes of movement into kids’ daily routines. Through this program, hundreds of schools in the U.S., China, Europe, Russia, South Africa and Latin America have introduced more physical activity into their classrooms, creating a healthier environment for everyone, including teachers, and encouraging millions of kids to get moving.
In 2017, Nike celebrated its first Active Schools Innovation Awards that recognize physical education teachers, everyday heroes—like last year’s winner, Meizhen Lin—who are finding creative ways to bring sport and play to the next generation.
