Creating lasting change doesn’t happen alone or overnight. That’s why Nike partners with more than 90 world-class organizations and grassroots nonprofits around the world that are dedicated to advancing equality, getting kids active and leveling the playing field for all.
We are a global company, but we take a community-based approach to giving — because we know that when we come together as a team, starting from the ground up, we can drive positive impact in the communities where we live and work.
Building an equitable future always starts at home — and the greater Portland area is our World Headquarters’ backyard.
We work closely with local partners, like the Portland Trail Blazers, Portland Parks & Recreation and Special Olympics Oregon, to help level the playing field for kids who face additional challenges to getting and staying active (e.g., girls, kids of all abilities and kids from underserved communities).
We provide sustainable, affordable and active transportation options across the city through BIKETOWN, Portland’s bike share system, which was launched in 2016 with 1,000 bikes and 125 stations. It’s a partnership between the City of Portland’s Bureau of Transportation (PBOT) and Nike, and operated by Lyft. We recently renewed our sponsorship to increase access to more Portlanders by expanding into East Portland and providing 1,500 new electric, pedal-assist bikes.
Each year, we award grants to local nonprofits in the greater Portland area that provide culturally relevant programming and advance equality in their communities, through our Until We All Win community investments.
We fuel innovation through design with the Doernbecher Freestyle program, pairing Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) Doernbecher Children’s Hospital patients with Nike designers to create limited-edition shoes to benefit the hospital. The collection has raised more than $27 million since it began in 2004.
Our Portland Community Store — created as the first-ever Nike Factory Store, on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, 35 years ago — serves local nonprofits, leaders and kids in its neighboring communities. Store athletes volunteer regularly as Nike Community Ambassadors with local organizations, such as the Community Transitional School, to coach kids and share their passion for sport and play with the next generation.
Through our local Nike Community Impact Fund and the Oregon-specific Nike School Innovation Fund grants, we support educational opportunities; youth sports and recreation opportunities for kids of all abilities, backgrounds and communities; as well as healthcare and housing opportunities for vulnerable populations.
